Didcot Town Youth 3 Wantage Concords 4 (AET)
After two league games and a Berks & Bucks Cup match, Didcot and Wantage met one last time in the cup final. With a win each and a draw it was a tough call as to who would come out on top. Jack Kelly's unfortunate fractured finger meant he was an absentee. Otherwise it was a full strength Wantage squad.
An even first 10 minutes made for a close game before Didcot drew first blood to take the lead. Within minutes they had doubled their lead to leave Wantage shell-shocked. However, the league leaders pressed hard to get back into the game and eventually their efforts were rewarded as Anthony Martin prodded the ball home to make it 2-1 at the interval.
The second half started with Wantage on top and the ball almost exclusively in the Didcot half, but they were unable to make their dominance count as Didcot's defence held firm. In a rare foray into the Wantage half Didcot then restored their two goal advantage and seemed to have one hand on the cup. However, almost immediately Wantage hit back as Anthony placed his header expertly into the corner to make it 3-2. The clocked ticked on and Didcot held on but couldn't deny Anthony his hat-trick with a delightful lob which sent the game into extra time.
Once again Wantage held the upper hand but Didcot had a chance to reclaim the lead via a one on one. Jack Trinder reacted superbly to prevent a certain goal and so the first extra time period ended without any change in the score. Penalties started to look a distinct possibility but we were saved that agony via one final twist. A Wantage free kick was floated into the area and Robbie Cundy rose to nod home and win it for Wantage.
A magnificent game and a great comeback by Wantage whose boys showed immense character to come back from both 0-2 and 1-3 down, never once losing their belief or letting their heads drop.
